A rose by any other name

One of the fun aspects of doing an AT hike is you get to have a trail name, a whimsical tradition in an effort to more clearly define oneself from any other hiker. It also prevents one “Jeff” from being confused with any other “Jeff” if there’s a problem on the trail.

Trail names are frequently not chosen before starting on the Trail. Search Google for “trail names” and you can find some interesting stories about how people found their names.

For example, there's:
"10 by 10, a NOBO hiker who had mice get into his stuff early on. He retaliated by carrying mouse traps from then on. One night, he killed ten mice by 10 PM, thus the trail name."
I will let my Trail Name find me; it finds everyone if you stay on the Trail long enough.
